A two car collision Friday afternoon briefly closed Avenue 13 about 3:30, when one of the vehicles, a Chevy sedan rear-ended another car turning onto Road 28 and then burst into flames, according to the Madera Police Department. The car that was struck from behind was spun and ended up off the road in an adjacent orchard. Officers said the collision is under investigation but likely resulted from distracted driving and also driving too fast for conditions. One person was taken to an area hospital with complaints of pain. Roadway conditions were clear and dry at the time.
